Multi Color 3D Printing for everyone

Now everyone can 3D print with up to 20 materials using CoPrint and their ChromaSet

CoPrint are trying to enable everyone with their old Ender 3 or newer Creality K1 3D Printer to get multi color 3D Printing like we have on Bambu Labs AMS 3D Printers. In this kickstarter they are creating a All-in-One solution to get your 3D Printer to print with up to 20 colors. How do they do it?

The Chromaset consists of6 parts that depending how they are combined speeds up your 3D printer, allows for remote control, touch screen and multi color printing.

4-color 3D Printing on a standard 3D Printer

Basically for a standard printer that doesn’t run Klippper firmware, you will need a basic ChromaSet that is priced at $449-549 depending on how early you get in on the kickstarter.

This consist of 7” ChromaScreen, that runs Klipper Screen software and let’s you control multiple extruders or multiple printers at once. This will be used to run the new extruder and the 4 motors pushing the different filament into your new extruder. It supports vibration measuring using a sensor, which let’s you use input shaping.

In the ChromaSet you also get a ChromaHead, a new extruder head that replaces the one on your printer. It’s been designed to be as compatible as possible with different rail-adapters to fit most types of frames. It uses dual drive extrusion system for 1,75mm filament.

ChromaHead also includes autolevelling using BL-touch and the whole point of replacing your current extruder is to upgrade it to include a filament cutter and the multiple entry points for filament guide tubes. This one supports 8 filaments.

With the new ChromaHead you also get their ChromaHotend, made specifically to make 3D Printing with multiple materials easier. It has a strong heater, up to 350C, supporting up to 67mm3/s using 1,75mm filament. It appears to use standard nozzles so you can swap for different sizes.

Affordable multi-material 3D Printing using Klippper firmware

If you’re already running Klipper firmware on your 3D Printer, you don’t need the full ChromaSet, and can just go with the KCM - Klipper Chroma Module.

This don’t include the ChromaScreen, that may feel like a costly “bonus” but rather a “connector" hub” that let’s you plug in the ChromaHead together with the 4 included filament extruders with your printer. This costs only $299 up to $399 depending on when you enter the Kickstarter campaign.

Going beyond 4 color 3D printing

If you want more than 4 materials you will need to add their ECM - Extended Chroma Module on top of the ChromaSet or KCM (if you already have Klipper). This let’s you add up to 4 new extruders.

You also need to buy those 4 extra extrudes and add on. We haven’t found the exact cost of each ECM or Drivers as of now.

How to get a CoPrint ChromaSet

CoPrint are currently running a kickstarter campaign to production in the early 2024. You should be aware that backing a project on kickstarter has it’s risks, as it’s not a simple typical online order.
